SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Democrats held a press conference Saturday morning to criticize President Trump's one big beautiful bill.
The group criticizing the bill saying that it is transferring wealth from the poor to the rich, through permanent tax cuts that Trump first made in 2017 during his first term and significant cuts to Medicaid and Food stamps. They also expressed that the bill is expected to strip healthcare away from 14 million Americans nationwide and 24,000 in the congressional district.
The bill is expected to cut 50 billion from Medicare in the next 10 years, impacting 50% of hoosiers.
The narrowly passed in the house 215 to 214 and is heading to the senate where its expected to make some changes. Speaker Mike Johnson gave a deadline of July 4 for President Trump to sign.
The " One Big Beautiful Bill" is expected to add 3.8 trillion dollars to the national debt according to the non partisan congressional Budget Office.
