Zombie Fun Run raises funds for students and teachers
BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The Moccasin Elementary parent organization held a Zombie Fun Run fundraiser.
"There's a lot of 5Ks that happen in the city of Buchanan, and it kind of evolved into a zombie run. So here we are with a one-mile race with zombies chasing kids," said Mike Babcock, the Moccasin Elementary Principal.
Runners wore two flags representing their "health," and volunteer zombies stationed along the course tried to grab the flags as runners passed.
"Kind of make it like a game of tag, basically so, they feel like some fun, some energy, some enthusiasm, but not so much that they start like freaking out and stuff," said Jackson, a Buchanan High School Senior and zombie volunteer.
Babcock estimated 50 to 60 students signed up as zombie volunteers.
According to the organizer the fundraiser had raised $2,825.05, above its $2,750 goal, as of Saturday afternoon.
"All our fundraisers go back to support the students and teachers. Whether it's helping students afford to go on end of the year field trips and also supporting teachers in the classroom with supplies," said Babcock.
