Developing Downtowns: South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Today the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint James in South Bend held its 30th annual strawberry festival -- selling tasty shortcakes for 7-dollars apiece to raise money for charity right here in Michiana!
"We look for organizations in the area that we have some kind of tie to often it's nominated by a member of the congregation," says Catherine Craker the co-coordinator of Shortcakes on the Blacktop. "And we were looking for something that helps children specifically, and we just wanted to reach out to our community. So, someone nominated clubhouse."
"We're really excited at St. Margaret's house. We serve mothers and their children. And we're really excited this summer to have a children's program where we're connected to a lot of different community partners to provide our kids with a lot of fun and educational experiences and the support we get from the shortcakes on the blacktop, it really helps make that possible for us that we can continue to meet the immediate needs of the moms and their children," says Manny Lopez.
