Rounds of dense fog and light rain today
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - St. Joseph County Metro Homicide has confirmed that a man was killed early Friday morning inside a Mishawaka bar.
The victim was identified as 28-year-old Avery Brown.
It happened just after 2:15 Friday morning at Bleachers on Grape Road.
Witnesses said the victim was shot at close range in a bathroom. They also say the person of interest ran out of the bar.
One witness said he just wanted to get out.
"I froze up," said Kolter Mecklenburg. "The first instinct was to get the people I cared about out of the building. But the second was to stop the guy and nobody -- it kind of disturbed me it kind of freaked me out that nobody -- stopped him."
Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett says the shooting happened near the bathroom. He says police are looking for the shooter, and that the community has nothing to worry about.
Family members described Brown as a nice guy, a protector, a traveler. They said he didn’t have any enemies.
Mishawaka Police have roped off most of the parking lot in front of Bleachers.
