Shipshewana Town Marshall turns self in for alleged domestic battery

SHSHEWANA, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police report Shipshewana Town Marshall Juan Carlos Jasso has turned himself in following an investigation into alleged domestic battery.

Police say that's when they were contacted about an incident involving Jasso.

ISP has since completed their investigation and has turned findings over to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office.

The report states the case has been turned over to a special prosecutor due to Jasso’s employment in Shipshewana as a police officer.

Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Jasso on Intimidation, a Felony.

On Monday, Jasso turned himself in at the LaGrange County Jail.

According to court documents from LaGrange County, a complaint of disorderly contact was made on Aug. 24, 2025, around 8:43 p.m. regarding an alleged incident between Jasso and two family members.

According to authorities, Jasso admitted to threatening to shoot his wife and that he told her he understood why people commit suicide but never threatened to kill himself. Jasso also claims he had no gun at the time of the threat.

Jasso informed police he had been upset that day.

The report also states Jasso's wife ran over his foot with her car during the incident, although both parties agreed that it was unintentional.

His wife informed police Jasso had been in the basement. When she went down to the bedroom, that's when she said he began yelling at her, which led the other family member to yell at Jasso.

Documents state the trio then went to the kitchen where the argument continued before Jasso's wife went to the car in the garage.

This is when Jasso is said to have begged her not to leave before he went to grab his gun from his police vehicle. Both Jasso and his wife told police the gun stayed in its holster and remained pointed down.

Jasso's wife said she told him to put it away, at which point he placed the gun back into the police car. Jasso's wife corroborated his claim that he takes his gun inside the home each night.

Jasso's wife claimed she never heard him threaten her or mention suicide, but he may have while she was yelling at him.

Jasso's wife also told police she was never in fear for her life.
