Severe weather likely for portions of Michiana later today

NOW: Severe weather likely for portions of Michiana later today
NEXT:

The first half of today is quiet, generally cloudy, and warm. Temperatures reach the mid 70s by this afternoon and dewpoints surge to near 60 degrees, both of which are ingredients for the strong to severe thunderstorms parts of Michiana will likely be seeing in the second half of today.

The severe threat continues to increase since yesterday afternoon for all of Michiana, but especially for communities and counties south of US-20. Expected timing of the risk has not changed and storms are still expected to have severe potential from 4 PM EDT to 11 PM EDT today. The most widespread and likely threats facing our area this evening are damaging straight-line winds and heavy rain/localized flooding, but discrete thunderstorms early in the severe window (4-6 PM) will also be capable of producing large hail and even a tornado IF they are able to form.

After midnight tonight, cold and soaking rain tapers off as temperatures fall to near freezing values. Highs on Friday and Saturday stay in the mid 40s, a big drop from the 60s and 70s earlier this week.

Today: PM thunderstorms. High 72.

Tonight: Thunderstorms. Low 32.

Friday: Overcast. High 42.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. High 46.
