It may only be the middle of April, but parts of the Midwest are already "tornado tested" this year.
Believe it or not, as of April 15, Ohio leads the nation in recorded tornadoes. Florida holds the second spot, with Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana rounding out the top five.
Tornado watches and warnings were ongoing Tuesday evening, and more severe weather is possible on Wednesday, even across portions of Michiana.
Thunderstorms could form Wednesday morning right over our area and strengthen as they move east. Locations east of US 31 have the best chance of seeing severe storms as of Tuesday evening.
Those severe storms could possibly include a tornado or two, but the risk for twisters is higher into portions of Ohio.
The biggest threat for Michiana would be damaging hail, but storm energy is in question due to an earlier round of storms, which should move in overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.
Stay with the ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Team for the latest updates on potential severe weather.
