SBCSC negotiates operation of new charter school

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The SBCSC discussed a pending agreement on Saturday to allow a charter school to operate within Washington High School in South Bend.

A public meeting was held on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. to discuss the potential changes and agreement with Purdue Polytechnic High School that would open the new school.

Superintendent Todd Cummings and other members of the Board of Trustees have voiced their support for a new charter high school, but community members have expressed concern on impacts to the public school system.

Community members and education activists discussed these concerns on Saturday, though SBCSC has said the agreement with Purdue Polytechnic High School remains pending.
