SOUTH BEND, Ind. — ABC57's Dante Stanton sat down one-on-one Tuesday with Kevin Jakel, owner and GM of Tippecanoe Place.
The restaurant announced they were permanently closed on Monday after opening all the way back in 1980.
The mansion that hosts Tippecanoe dates back to the 1880s, and has become too difficult to handle and maintain.
Jakel says its been an emotional farewell, with the popular spot serving their final meals on New Years' Eve.
Another factor in their closing was the difficulty in maintaining efficiency, with the restaurant spanning four floors, and struggles adapting to the changing industry.
Jakel is confident that while Tippecanoe Place is closed, the mansion itself will live on in another way.
