UPDATE: The scene was cleared by around 1:22 p.m. according to the Elkhart Police Department.
EPD assisted with traffic control during the incident.
Roads have reopened in the area except where previously closed for the demolition site.
ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A large excavator at the demolition site of the old Elkhart County Courthouse caught fire Friday afternoon with smoke billowing into the sky.
Elkhart County Dispatch confirmed the call came around 12:07 p.m.
Authorities say northbound lanes of 3rd Street between Franklin and High Streets are currently blocked off.
