Regaining Daylight: Michiana days getting longer heading towards Spring
SOUTH BEND, Ind.--Spring has been fighting for a spot this month, flipping from warm to cold, and even from winter storms to severe storms.
But what’s not been fighting-- is the sun. We are gaining daylight again and have begun to become noticeable.
We gain about two minutes of daylight per day in February, which adds up to over an hour. The infamous perma-cloud can make the days still seem a little dark, but our days have in fact gotten longer.
On the first day of the month, the sunrise was at 7:56 a.m. and sunset at 6 p.m. By the end of the month, sunrise will be at 7:21 a.m. and sunset at 6:34 p.m. While that might not seem like a big jump, it is an indication that spring is on its way.
Michiana is just a month away from seeing 12 hours of daylight again--something we haven’t seen since last September. By mid-May 14-hour days will return, and our days will continue to lengthen until the Summer Solstice, June 21.
