SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Many immigrant communities across the world, whether of the Roman Catholic faith or not, were deeply saddened by the passing of Pope Francis on Easter Monday.
During his 12-year Papacy, Pope Francis prioritized the support of immigrant and migrant communities, having come from a family of immigrants himself.
Most recently, Pope Francis spoke out against mass deportation plans by the Trump administration during a statement in February.
ABC57 caught up with neighbors on South Bend's West side Tuesday to discuss their thoughts on Pope Francis' role as leader of the Catholic faith and what impact he had on immigrant/migrant communities across the world.
