'Prancerpalooza' comes to Three Oaks for locally shot film's 35th anniversary
THREE OAKS, Mich. -- The Village of Three Oaks will be host to "Prancerpalooza" on Saturday to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the film "Prancer," which was filmed in Three Oaks.
Organizers invite the public downtown for what they describe as a magical day filled with several events from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
"Prancer" will screen at the Vickers Theatre at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., each followed by a panel discussion featuring the movie's director, John D. Hancock, and several actors, answering audience questions.
There will also be a Prancer photo opportunity, Prancer in Pose, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a life-size blow-mold reindeer set up in a courtyard next to Drier's Butcher Shop at 14 S. Elm St.
A Prancer Parade will take place at 4 p.m. on Elm Street from Maple to Linden Street.
The parade will feature the Prancer celebrities traveling in sleighs through the streets of Three Oaks, as well as carolers, residents who appeared as extras in the movie, and a gaggle of "rein-dogs" wearing antlers.
At 11 a.m., the museum at 8 Linden Street will display the scale model of Three Oaks village used in the film's final scene, when they show a "Santa's-eye" view of town.
Organizers say some downtown stores will offer special bargains, hot drinks, and other treats throughout the day.
There will also be fliers mapping out a self-guided tour of the movie's shooting locations available online and at local businesses.
A Prancer Walk of Fame will be set up on Elm Street to pay tribute to those who helped make the film in 1989, including late cast members Cloris Leachman, Abe Vigoda, and Michael Constantine.
Village officials also announced a new addition to Carver Park, a Prancer inspired piece of Christmas décor created by Pat Mathewson.
Lastly, a Sam Elliot look-a-like contest will be held at 8 p.m. at the Tom Cat Tavern located at 18 N. Elm St.
