'Pop-up University Lecture: The U.S. Presidency and Growth of Executive Power' at LangLab Thursday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Office of Community Engagement at Indiana University South Bend and LangLab announced the free "Pop-Up University Lecture: The U.S. Presidency and the Growth of Executive Power – A View from Political Science" will take place on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
The lecture will be presented by Dr. Jamie Smith, Associate Professor of Political Science, IU South Bend.
Organizers describe the talk as follows:
"How powerful is the U.S. presidency? The office is sometimes described as the most powerful on the planet, but in practice is often very constrained. Political scientists have long studied and theorized about this dichotomy, providing some answers and more questions. This presentation provides some context on the dynamics of presidential power, and the balance of power in the federal system, by discussing political science theories regarding the expansion of the executive while also engaging with Constitutional foundations of the office of the Presidency."
The event is free, open to the public, and welcomes all ages.
Organizers encouraged attendees to arrive early to purchase hot or cold beverages and snacks.
The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for discussion and Q&A.
Audience members are invited to stay late for further discussion and networking.
The lecture will take place at LangLab located at1302 High St. in South Bend.
