Deputies investigating a hit and run in Nappanee

NAPPANEE, Ind. – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that happened just north of Nappanee on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. According to officials, one of the drivers failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of County Road 9 and 46 which caused a three-way accident.

The driver of a white Dodge Ram pickup truck fled the scene after failing to yield, causing Rosalinda Smeltzer to hit the rear passenger side of the truck.

Smeltzer’s vehicle was pushed into the other lane and was hit head on by another car, driven by Nathan Miller, dealing heavy damage to both.

Both Smeltzer and Miller were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies are searching for the driver of the white pickup, which is described as having damage to the read passenger side on the flatbed.
