GOSHEN, Ind. -- A police chase in Goshen ended with an officer firing shots.
Investigators say the chase started around 9:15 Wednesday night in the area of LinconWay East and Kercher Road. It ended just before 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Washington and 3rd Street in Goshen.
Officers say they were trying to pull over Joshua Allen Perry, 34, for a traffic stop, but he refused to stop and drove off.
Police say speeds during the chase reached 30 to 40 miles per hour. Officers used stop sticks several times along the chase route to flatten the suspect's tires.
Investigators say after the chase, something happened that caused the officer to fire his gun.
Perry was taken to Goshen Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Goshen Police say the officer will be placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed, per department policy. The officer’s name will be released at a later time.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
