PIKE COUNTY, Ill.—A black bear who is traveling through Illinois was spotted by Illinois State Police on Monday crossing a highway.

The bear originally crossed into Illinois from Wisconsin on June 10. It then crossed into Iowa and then back into Illinois.

The Department of Natural Resources and police are monitoring the bear’s travels for the safety of the bear and others.

It has mostly traveled through northwestern Illinois unbothered until it passed through Henderson County on Father’s Day weekend at which point over 300 people gathered to view, follow, and harass the bear, the DNR said.

Illinois State Police spotted the bear along I-72 on Monday around 3 p.m. and reminded people not to approach the bear they’ve nicknamed “Bruno."
