DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan and Indiana, alongside Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA), announced Thursday that they've signed Michigan's second tribal-state cannabis compact, which grants the Pokagon Band access to Michigan's licensed adult-use cannabis market.

The Pokagon Band legalized cannabis for adults on its tribal land in April 2023, launching the Rolling Embers retail store and consumption lounge, but the store didn't have access to Michigan's licensed cannabis market until Thursday.

The cannabis compact allows Rolling Embers to access Michigan's wholesale and distribution channels, move cannabis outside of its Indian lands for trade with state licenses, collaborate with the CRA on inspections, and to take part in the statewide seed-to-sale marijuana tracking system, Metrc.

The compact also requires the Pokagon Band to reimburse Michigan for the cost of administering the compact by sharing with the state a percentage of its Cannabis Excise Tax.
