Penn's STEM students earn $1,400 for Hope Ministries
South Bend's Hope Ministries will receive $1,400 thanks to a gifted engineering student and her team at Penn High School.
Kait Kelsey, a sophomore in the Girls Introduction to Engineering Design Class, earned the donation by participating in the October food drive.
Kelsey and her fellow engineering classmates designed and built a "Rosie the Riveter" sculpture for the Canstruction event.
"It was really rewarding because we all worked together as a team and when we all got together, we just did this wonderful thing and it benefited in so many other ways that we had no idea in the beginning. It was really just great for us to work together," said Kelsey.
Kelsey and her classmates collected approximately 3,500 cans of food.
Her class won "Voters choice" award and "Best meal" awards.
