Passenger train delayed over an hour after incident with car in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Amtrak and South Shore Line trains were delayed over an hour this afternoon due to an incident between a vehicle and a train at the intersection of Bendix and Greene.

Authorities say the call came in around 1:15 p.m. and no injuries were reported.

There was enough damage to the vehicle that a tow truck requested.

"WB Train 18 is stopped near the South Bend Airport due to a vehicle incident. Time of delay is unknown and will update when on the move," South Shore Lines said at 1:20 p.m. 

At 2:19 p.m., they sent an update saying WB Train 18 was on the move.

There was a previous incident between a car and a train at this same intersection in December of 2023.
