ORIGINAL STORY: CASSOPOLIS, Mich. -- Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC) reported about 1,500 customers out of power as of 8:49 a.m. Monday morning, owing to strong winds and heavy snow in the Michigan area.

MEC stated that the largest outages are in Wayne, Silver Creek, and LaGrange townships in Michigan.

Other townships were also impacted by these outages, and you can check out MEC's outage map to see more details or report further outages.

Due to potential live electricity, MEC asks you to stay 50 feet away from any downed or low-hanging power lines, and if you see downed lines, to call either 911 or MEC at 800-492-5989.
