One sent to hospital following crash involving oversize trailer

ABC 57

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Department reports deputies responded to mile-marker 230 on US 31 around 8:54 a.m., Wednesday, for a multi-vehicle crash involving an oversize trailer.

Authorities say a Chevy Impala, driven by a 26-year-old Rochester man, was traveling south on US 31.

Traffic began slowing due to a vehicle being recovered by a wrecker.

That's when authorities say the Impala crashed into the rear of a 2013 GMC pickup truck, driven by a 71-year-old South Whitley, Ind. man.

The GMC, which was escorting an oversize trailer, then struck the trailer before stopping in the road.

The 71-year-old driver was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for a possible back injury.
