One rescued with leg injury Sunday after falling through Lake Michigan ice shelf

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -- South Haven Area Emergency Services reports crew members responded to South Beach at around 3:05 p.m., Sunday, for a person who'd fallen the ice shelf on Lake Michigan.

Officials say this occurred about 100 yards offshore.

Emergency responders say the victim suffered a leg injury and was taken to shore on a gurney.

The victim was then taken to a hospital in Kalamazoo.

Officials say this is the second time this winter an incident like this has happened.

SHAES officials are reminding people to stay off the lake's ice shelves and pier heads.
