One man injured in shooting on Highland Avenue

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.—One man was injured in a shooting on Highland Avenue in Benton Township on September 22, according to the  Benton Township Police Department.

On Sunday around 5:56 p.m., officers were sent to Blossom Acres Housing complex near the 1000 block of Highland Avenue regarding a shooting victim.

Officers found one male victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported to police that the incident stemmed from a fight involving juveniles earlier that same day on Pavone Steet. The fight continued at the Blossom Acres Housing complex.

An adult male family member of one of the juveniles involved in the fight attempted to break up the fight, at which time he was shot, according to police.

The suspect has not been identified or located at the time of this writing however the suspect is described as a 25-year-old black male wearing a gray hoodie and carrying a silver revolver.
