One dead after Prius flips, lands in water-filled ditch Wednesday morning
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- A 35-year-old Bourbon, Ind. man is dead Wednesday morning after the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line, stuck a signpost and guardrail, and rolled over into a ditch filled with water.
Kosciusko County authorities are investigating the fatal single motor vehicle crash that occurred on C.R. 300 west, roughly half a mile north of C.R. 1350 north in northwest Kosciusko County in Jefferson Township.
Reports indicate the call came in at 8:10 a.m., and when emergency personnel arrived on scene, they located a Toyota Prius overturned in a ditch, partially submerged in water.
"The vehicle, driven by Derek T. Anderson, was southbound on C.R. 300 west and for an unknown reason, crossed the center line, exited the eastside of the roadway, where the vehicle struck a signpost and guardrail," the Kosciusko Sheriff's Office said.
"The vehicle then rolled over coming to rest on its top in a water-filled ditch."
Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash by the Kosciusko County Coroner, Tyler Huffer.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County FACT Team.
