UPDATE: 16-year-old charged as adult in Michigan City shooting Sunday
ABC 57 UPDATE: Court documents from La Porte County reveal 16-year-old Darrien Washington is being charged as an adult regarding an attempted robbery turned shooting in Michigan City on Sunday.
Washington is charged with Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 2 Felony, Aggravated Battery causing serious permanent disfigurement, a Level 3 Felony, and Dangerous Possession of a Firearm by Child, a Misdemeanor.
His bail hearing is set for Jan. 13, followed by another hearing on Feb. 19.
The victim told police he was approached by five men in dark clothing but couldn't identify them.
The victim said one of the larger guys tackled him from behind and said, "Oh yeah, give me that s***, give me all that s***." He attempted to run away but the group pointed guns at him.
The victim believes one of the men attempted to shoot him, but the gun jammed.
Each of the men appeared to have a firearm according to the victim.
The victim kept running when he heard several gunshots.
The victim was struck in his right buttocks.
The victim expressed he was in extreme pain. He was later transferred to a different hospital for treatment.
Washington was later identified as a suspect through further investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports one person has been arrested following a shooting on Saturday at an apartment complex.
Authorities say the initial investigation determined the victim was involved in an encounter with several people which escalated into an attempted robbery.
During the incident a firearm was discharged, at which point the victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Following the investigation, one person was taken into custody on several felony charges.
Police say the case remains active and the investigation is ongoing.
A search warrant was then executed at a location of interest which led to the recovery of multiple firearms, including the firearm believed to have been used during the incident.
