Old belongings get new life at Michigan’s longest annual garage sale
CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Michigan’s annual longest garage sale kicked off this Friday and will last until Sunday. In an over 200-mile stretch of Michigan, following US 12 Heritage Trail, there were estate sales set up every few minutes.
Buyers and sellers alike all said this event is special, crafting bonds between people from all over, getting the chance to give old belongings new life.
Garage sales shopper, Stephanie Reeves, says there’s something for everyone at this event.
“I think that it’s a really nice social event. You get to talk to people that wouldn’t normally talk to and get to see a lot of different things. What I’m noticing out here is there is antiques and there’s also new things I’m finding as well, so there’s a little bit of a mix of everything for everyone,” said Reeves.
Antique shop owner and auctioneer, Roni Albert, mentioned how this event is more than just garage sales. She says it gives her the opportunity to embed the importance of antiques to a younger generation.
“It’s just part of our history. From our great grandparents to their grandparents that have brought things over from Europe and France, from wartime, I mean, we’re losing all this beautiful history and the ones like us that are trying to preserve it are the ones that are working hard to make it available to the next generation,” said Albert.
This event causes cars to be parked all down US 12, creating heavy traffic that pedestrians need to cross. Make sure to pay attention to where you park and walk if you decide to join in on the huge sale on Sunday.
