SOUTH BEND, Ind -- The Irish come out on fire to beat UConn 74-60 after falling to Maryland at the buzzer.
It was a packed house for the Irish and the team showed out for the fans.
Notre dame was led by star sophomore Olivia miles with 21 points and 8 rebounds and her running mate Maddy Westbeld with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
The credit in this win not only going to a team who struck back after a gut punching buzzer beater from Maryland in their last game – but to the fans and former Notre Dame stars Natalie Achonwa and Arike Ogunbowale in the house for the 74-60 win.
“Yeah, you know, I think the Thursday’s loss really fueled us today. And that was really tough loss, obviously, went down to the wire. We learned a lot from that game. And we knew that you know, we can score we have incredible scores on our team a lot of balance offensively, but it's our defense that is going to win games and so that was our focus the last 48 hours. They took the challenge and they came out here and they played with heart.” said Head Coach Niele Ivey.
“I was just being aggressive and seeing you know who was coming over and when I could time it right to hit the one of my teammates so I hit Maddy, I think on a few of them and I hit Sony (Sonia Citron) so things were just opening up as I was attacking the lane because they crashed really hard,” said guard Olivia Miles.
