Notre Dame students celebrate Papal Mass in Philadelphia

ABC 57 spoke with multiple students from local colleges and schools who traveled to Philadelphia and celebrated the Papal Mass led by Pope Francis.

About 1.5 million people from all over the world were in Philadelphia on Sunday to catch a rare opportunity in seeing the Pope.

Tickets to the papal mass were rare.

Some Notre Dame students camped out in a public access area beforehand.

“Even if you aren’t super close, it’s just like you are here any ways so make the best out of it,” said Notre Dame freshman Peter Spalitto.

The pontiff's presence is exactly why John Paul Lichon of Notre Dame Campus ministry says watching the mass on one of forty jumbo trons located in the city is perfectly fine for him.

“I’m not gonna try to wait for ten hours to get the best spot possible but I’m excited to be with so many of the faithful that are here gathered and just be part of the crowd and enjoy the mass,” said John Paul Lichon, Assistant Director of Retreats, Notre Dame Campus Ministry.
