Notre Dame beats Virginia with seconds to spare

Notre Dame went into the game hungry for a win and did whatever it took to beat Virginia.

The Irish came out in bold fashion.

Justin Yoon faked a 24 yard field goal attempt, Deshone Kizer threw a 7 yard pass to Durham Smythe for the first score of the game.

Notre Dame tried for 2 but fails to convert.

Although the Irish offense could have been a little sharper throughout the first half, their defense dominated.

Virginia got off to a slow start against the Irish.

The Cavaliers possessed the ball for 12:30 by halftime--with 164 yards in total offense compared to Notre Dame's 210.

The Irish had C.J. Prosise in part to thank for that.

He had an outstanding day rushing for 107 yards by the end of the first half.

UVA put up a fight late in the second quarter with a 42 yard touchdown pass giving them their first lead of the game.

They headed to the locker room leading the Irish 14-12 at halftime.

The Irish came back from the half and Malik Zaire connected with Fuller on an explosive 59-yard touchdown pass to take back the lead.

But then, Zaire was carted off the field after he was injured during a play with just 54-seconds left in the third quarter.

The Irish led 25-14 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Irish and Virginia took turns leading the score, but Notre Dame felt the pressure of the clock.

With just seconds to go in the game, the Irish scored and won 34-27.
