On July 31, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the settlement on a proposal to raise rates by NIPSCO.
Customers can expect to see gradual increases from now until March 1, 2025.
The full rate increase will be an average of $5 per month per user but varies depending on the customer.
The rate increase was first proposed in October of 2023 and public feedback sessions were held in January of 2024.
Those sessions, along with state actions groups, helped NIPSCO keep rate adjustments lower than the 10% increase initially proposed.
NIPSCO is raising rates to help with a $1.1 billion infrastructure development and to meet new quality standard regulations put in place by their governing body.
