Bourbon blackout caused by snowplow crash
BOURBON, Ind. -- According to Bourbon Police on the scene, a town-wide power outage affecting around 670 customers Wednesday was caused by a plow truck going off the side of the US 30/ S.R. 331 overpass exit and crashing into a utility pole.
The crash, which happened just before 11 a.m., left power lines scattered throughout the exit area, which was still closed off as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
ABC57 spoke with workers at The Standard, an antique and ice cream shop in Bourbon about the outage that followed.
Employees tell our team the outage only lasted an hour but led to the rescheduling of an event and the lunch special of the day had to be reheated. The Standard also couldn’t open their ice cream case for the remainder of the morning.
Other business owners tell similar stories of confusion and worry during the outage, which we’re told spread into nearby Etna Green.
Power was restored by noon and NIPSCO crews were on scene in the late afternoon putting the damaged power pole back into place.
