Family member of sexual assault victim confirmed as suspect in Elkhart motel murder
First scheduled for October 2025, then March 2026, Stanley’s murder trial is now scheduled to begin Sept. 21.
This comes after Stanley attempted to fire his attorney, Elkhart County Chief Public Defender Bridgette Faulkner, and represented himself. But, in a status hearing last month, Stanley withdrew his request to self-represent, saying he was in over his head.
Now, he and his counsel have extended time to build a defense against his confessed murder of sex offender Allen Cogswell at the Daylite Inn in Elkhart on June 24, 2025.
