New Mishawaka fire chief sworn in

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -

After 19 years with the same fire chief, the Mishawaka Fire Department has a new leader.

New chief Bryon Woodward was sworn in by Mayor Dave Wood Tuesday.

Former Fire Chief Dale Freeman retired Monday after 36 years with the department, 20 as chief.

"He has really transformed this department. When I think about his leadership over the past 19 years, it's really the point in time when the most significant growth of our city also the most significant growth of this fire department," said Mayor Wood.

Woodward was sworn in after his promotion was approved by the city Board of Public Works and Safety.

His family and friends attended the ceremony.
