New leadership for Michigan City Police department

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch announced today that Chief Marty Corely will return to the rank and file and Steve Forker has been appointed as the new Chief of Police, effective September 14, to facilitate the transition of department leadership.
Mayor Nelson emphasized that the leadership transition reflects the City's commitment to strengthening public safety, accountability, and communication with residents.
The Michigan City Police Department sent a statement to ABC57 saying:
I want to thank Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch for the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police for the City of Michigan City. It has been one of the greatest honors of my career to lead the men and women of the Michigan City Police Department and to serve this community that I deeply care about. I understand the Mayor's decision to move in a new direction for the department. The position of Chief demands one be fully absorbed in the role, and I respect the Mayor's judgment that this change is in the best interest of the City at this time. Moving forward, I remain committed to serving the people of Michigan City in my continued role as a Sergeant with the MCPD, and I will support Chief Forker and the leadership team as they take the department forward. Michigan City is my home, and my dedication to this community and its future will never change.
