New interchange at S.R. 2 in New Carlisle moves forward
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Wednesday the St. Joseph County Redevelopment Commission unanimously passed resolution 2025-18: Approving Funding for Construction of Interchange At S.R 2 and Larrison Boulevard.
Earlier this year, an interlocal agreement was passed with the RDC, SJC Commissioners, and INDOT for construction. The goal is to make it safer to drive in that area due to the increased traffic for the data centers and GM battery plant.
This new resolution approves the authorization of $12 million from St. Joseph County to move the project forward, with another $7 million commitment from Amazon Web Services.
The money will be used to purchase six properties surrounding the intersection.
All properties, with the exception of one, are currently occupied, and SJC is in the process of closing on three properties.
There is a total of 17 properties being built with the rest already owned by either the county, AWS, or GM.
The money that SJC has comes from existing funds like the New Carlisle Economic Development Area bond.
Construction on the interchange is expected to begin in March of 2026, moving to a second phase in July and then completing in November of 2027.
