SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The controversial New Day Intake Center is moving ahead with plans to build on Bendix Drive in South Bend.
Following criticisms over the Bendix site for the low-barrier homeless center, the center gave the county a March 15 deadline to consider selling a piece of property on Old Cleveland Road as an alternative.
That deadline passed Friday, so the center is moving forward with its original site on Bendix, which it still believes is best suited to help our area's homeless.
The center says it's in a 90-day closing phase to take over the Bendix site, then plans to rezone it in May or June.
