New Carlisle Fire Department responds to commercial alarm Wednesday

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- The New Carlisle Fire Department was told by an alarm company that the tripped alarm at a commercial building was a false alarm on Wednesday. They showed up anyway and put out a machine fire that was threatening to spread.
Authorities say, around 3 p.m., they were called to a commercial fire alarm in the 54000 block Smilax Road.
"Initially, dispatch advised us to disregard after the alarm company called back, but following our department policy, we proceeded to the scene to ensure safety — without lights and sirens, but committed to arriving," the NCFD said.
"As our first engine arrived, dispatch updated us that a 9-1-1 call confirmed a fire in the building. Crews found the building under evacuation with heavy smoke inside. Fortunately, the fire was contained to machinery within the structure and was quickly extinguished."
There were no injuries.
"Our team remains dedicated to swift, safe responses to protect our community," the NCFD said.
