Nessel launches new webpage to combat election misinformation

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.-- Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has unveiled a new webpage aimed at helping voters identify election misinformation, with a focus on recognizing artificial intelligence (AI) content and accessing reliable election resources.

The webpage provides guidance on spotting AI-generated misinformation, offering voters the tools to protect their votes and stay informed. AI, which enables machines to mimic human intelligence, has advanced rapidly in recent years, making it easier to create convincing imitations of human speech and writing.

Earlier this year, Nessel, alongside the nationwide Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, issued a warning to a company accused of using AI to impersonate President Joe Biden in scam election robocalls.

The calls, which targeted New Hampshire residents during the state’s primary, allegedly aimed to suppress voter participation.

“While technology has made it easier than ever to access election information, the rise of AI has also made it easier for misinformation on these topics to spread,” Nessel said.

The new resource underscores the importance of digital literacy in elections, empowering Michigan voters to navigate online spaces confidently and safeguard the integrity of their votes.
