SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Near Northwest Neighborhood celebrates 50 years, holding an outdoor 'Arts Cafe' today near their Portage Avenue Office in South Bend.
Vendors, live musicians, and hundreds of community members showed up for a now half a century old neighborhood association.
Near Northwest Neighborhood Incorporated is dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of the neighborhood, providing affordable housing and empowering the community members in a diverse South Bend area.
"They're going to see their neighbors' talents and their music and their art and their food and our neighborhood as is as diverse as it comes in the City of South Bend, and that is showcased here too. So, we hope for more than another 50 years, of course, of revitalization and growth in the near Northwest neighborhood. But this is a true celebration," stated Director of Near Northwest Neighborhood Kathy Schuth.
At the event, a hayride through the neighborhood was offered, giving kids and adults an opportunity to see the developments underway.
