The jury was thanked and discharged before the court heard arguments and upon request of the State over Defendant's objection, did not enter judgments of conviction on Count II and III at the time for good cause and the interests of justice.
Documents state the entry of judgments of conviction on Counts II and III may prevent the State from retrying the Defendant on Count I, Murder, due to double jeopardy.
The court has set a briefing schedule and additional status conferences.
ORIGINAL STORY: MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A name has been released in connection with the shooting in Mishawaka on Jan 15. Resulting in the death of 17-year-old Takoda Gallegos.
Due to the age of the suspect the charge of murder is an automatic waiver to the adult court.
The suspect can be identified as Latrell Vaughn. He was found while in the city of Mishawaka and arrested and sent to the St. Joseph County Jail.
