UPDATE: Juvenile suspect in custody for fatal shooting of teen on Indiana Avenue
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- UPDATE AS OF 4:20 p.m.: The Mishawaka Police Department has identified the victim as Takoda Simon Gallegos, of Vandalia, Mich.
UPDATE: Mishawaka Police Department reports officers responded to the 200 block of Indiana Avenue for a shooting around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Police say upon arrival they found a 17-year-old boy lying on the floor of the residence with life-threatening injuries.
The report states officers began life-saving measures.
The teen was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives from the MPD Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene to assist.
Detectives then interviewed witnesses, attempting to identify any suspect(s) and find further evidence.
Police say a juvenile suspect was then identified and apprehended with help from the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT team.
The suspect is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center.
Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident with no further danger to the community.
Police say further leads are being developed, but no other information about this incident will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Mishawaka Police Department responded to a shooting near the 200 block of Indiana Avenue to reports of a gunshot victim.
This incident took place around 8:45 p.m. not too far away from the girls' basketball game was underway at Mishawaka High School.
Early reports suggested that a baby had been shot but once officers arrived on scene, they quickly learned that was not the case.
Instead, they found a man inside the home who was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time authorities are not releasing the victim's identity.
Authorities are currently investigating what led up to the shooting.
