Multiple firearms seized and stolen vehicle recovered

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a reported assault at a residence in the 36000 block of 72nd Avenue in Paw Paw Township on Mar. 14 around 6:30 p.m.
Authorities were informed the suspect had fled prior to their arrival.
The report states while on scene investigating the assault and searching for the suspect, they found a vehicle on the property that was reported stolen out of Dowagiac.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the incident location and began searching the residence, outbuildings, and property.
Authorities say they found a small amount of methamphetamine, multiple firearms, and ammunition.
The owner and primary resident of the property is not able to legally possess or own any firearms or ammunition.
Deputies seized eight long guns, one pistol, and a couple hundred rounds of various ammunition for the firearms.
The report states the original assault suspect was not found.
The stolen vehicle was turned over to the Dowagiac Police Department.
Reports will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review of charges on the assault suspect and the property owner.
