March is seemingly heading out like a lion, with severe weather expected throughout Michiana this afternoon/evening. We start the morning mostly calm, cloudy, scattered showers expected. A preliminary band of storms is expected in the early afternoon, nothing severe, but this will take away some of the available energy for the larger band in the mid-afternoon. This frontal system will likely start cutting through our western counties 3 pm, reaching the US 31 corridor around 5-6 pm. This is also when the storms are expected to be at their strongest. The band continues to move to the east, with storms out of our area by 8 pm, some showers linger into the early evening. Again, timing for this storm system is still 4pm-8pm, with the largest threats to Michiana being damaging wind and hail. These risks are increased south of US 30, where afternoon storms aren't expected to take away as much energy. A spin up tornado anywhere in Michiana cannot be ruled out, though chances are on the low side. Since it is a strong cold front pushing up this moisture, we are expecting a significant drop in temperatures for Monday. If there are still lingering showers early morning, precipitation may be falling as flakes. Cooler in the first half of the week, with another increased chance for storms on Wednesday.
