Motorcyclist killed in crash at S. Michigan and Ewing

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A motorcyclist died in a crash at the intersection of South Michigan Street and Ewing Avenue on Friday, according to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.

At 9:48 p.m., law enforcement were called to the crash.

The investigation found that a Michigan City man was driving a SUV north on Michigan and was turning left onto Ewing when his vehicle and a southbound motorcycle collided in the intersection, reports said.

The motorcyclist, identified as 42-year-old Steven Kendrick Loy of Elkhart, was taken to a local hospital where he died.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

An autopsy for Loy has been scheduled for Monday.

The driver of the SUV was cooperative, and impairment did not appear to be a factor.

Toxicology results are pending.
