UPDATE: Motorcyclist dead after collision with passenger vehicle Thursday

JUNE 24 UPDATE: On Tuesday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office released more details on a a motorcycle crash that left one man dead in South Bend on Thursday, June 19.

Authorities say officers were dispatched around 4:57 p.m. to a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at S.R. 23 and Birch Road in Granger.

When officers arrived, they found that the driver of the motorcycle was deceased. The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was then activated, pursuant to protocol.

"Initial reports indicate that the driver of the passenger vehicle, May Hesham Daoud, 56, of South Bend, was attempting to make a left hand turn onto S.R. 23 and turned into the path of the motorcycle, driven by Alexander J. Neland, 39, of South Bend, who was traveling northbound on S.R. 23," investigators said.

Neland was pronounced deceased at the scene. Daoud had minor injuries and cooperated with the authorities.

The preliminary investigation did not show signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.

ORIGINAL: GRANGER, Ind. -- A motorcycle crash around 5 p.m. Thursday evening has part of S.R. 23 closed as the scene remains active. 

The call came into authorities from the area of 50694 S.R. 23 in Granger.

The St. Joseph County FACT is also being called in.
