Monterey man found guilty of Attempted Murder in 2023 case

PULASKI COUNTY, Ind. -- The Pulaski County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday a jury found Kenneth D. Ketcham, of Monterey, guilty of Attempted Murder, along with charges of Criminal Recklessness and Pointing a Firearm, following a July 3, 2023, shooting in Monterey.
Court documents state on July 3, 2023, Pulaski County Dispatch received two calls, with one being a report of a victim's truck being shot at while driving on Walnut Street with four people inside, and the other being a report of a man pointing a gun at a victim less than a block away.
Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene. The first deputy on scene saw a bullet ricochet mark on the truck's hood and two bullet holes in the passenger side.
The second victim identified Ketcham as the man who pointed a gun at them.
Deputies later located Ketcham at his home where he ignored their commands and began to approach three rifles in the bed of his truck.
Deputies say they had to taze him to stop him.
Authorities say one of the rifles, a loaded .308, was jammed, and later a search of his home uncovered a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun on his kitchen table.
Deputies also recovered three spent shell casings near the post office where the shooting occurred, according to documents.
The Indiana State Police Laboratory later confirmed they had been fired from Ketcham's handgun.
Court documents state at trial, Ketcham claimed he was too intoxicated to form intent, but the jury rejected that defense and found him guilty on all charges.
Ketcham faces up to 60 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for May 20.
