ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- The updated drought monitor has placed much of Michiana in moderate drought conditions ahead of rain chances.
The new drought monitor that is released every Thursday updated to include much of the area in moderate drought.
These are signs that drought is only worsening as we have had 22 days straight of no rainfall.
Thankfully, that could change today with scattered storms.
If we miss out on rain today, early next week should provide us with measurable rainfall.
Our weather pattern that brought us sunshine, warm afternoons/cool nights, and no rain looks to finally break apart next week.
Drought unfortunately does not just immediately go away though, as it takes time for the ground to heal itself after experiencing dry weather for nearly a month.
As conditions become more conducive for rain as we end September, do not think drought will quickly disappear.
We will likely hold onto the ramifications of drought well into October, but at least rain is finally in the forecast again.
