A welfare check on a resident in a senior housing complex led to a brief standoff Thursday morning, according to Mishawaka Police.
Police responded to the Riverview Apartments at 500 Lincolnway East at 10 a.m.to check on a resident.
When they made contact with the 68-year-old resident, he pointed a gun at the officers through the open apartment door.
The officers retreated and the resident closed his apartment door, reports said.
The SAT Team was activated while officers contained the resident to his apartment.
Officers and the dispatch center stayed in contact with the subject and convinced him to come out with his hands in the air.
The 68-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
