MISHAWAKA, Ind.—The Mishawaka Memorial Day Parade for 2021 has been canceled, according to a parade volunteer.
The annual parade was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a post on the parade’s Facebook page, other events will be planned to honor local Veterans.
People living in Mishawaka say they're sad to see the parade canceled for the second year in a row.
"We never really know what to expect anymore and we’re always waiting with baited breath to see what’s going to happen," said Lindsay Vest, Manager of the Indiana Rug Company in Mishawaka. "It’s definitely a blow because you feel like 'Okay, we’re close. We’re close,' and then you shoot back another 10 feet."
There was hope that based on the amount of people being vaccinated and it being an outdoor event that the observation would still go on but issues obtaining permits halted planning.
"I think we’re all kind of anticipating being able to get back to somewhat of a normal life again so having it canceled for the second year in a row is a little bit of a bummer," said Vest.
Mishawaka mayor's office has not returned a request for comment.
